What is joint pain?

A joint is an area where two bones meet. Joint pain is the discomfort coming from that area. Joint pain can be anywhere from mildly uncomfortable pain to severely debilitating pain.

What causes joint pain?

There are many possible causes of joint pain. Some causes of joint pain include:

  • Arthritis
  • Cancer
  • Broken bone
  • Dislocation
  • Lupus
  • Lyme Disease
  • Osteoporosis
  • Ricketts
  • Injury affecting any of the ligaments, bursae, or tendons surrounding or within the joint.

Where can joint pain occur?

Joint pain can occur in any joint, but may include:

  • Elbow
  • Wrist
  • Hand
  • Shoulder
  • Knees
  • Ankles
  • Feet
  • Neck

What are the treatment options for joint pain?

Treatments for joint pain depend on the cause of the joint pain. However, joint pain treatments may include the following:

  • NSAID medications (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)
  • Heat and cold
  • Pain management injections
  • Physical therapy
