Ava Giugliano, D.O. is the newest member to join the team at Southeast Pain and Spine Care. She is a Western Maryland native and completed her medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. After fellowships in both neurology and comprehensive pain management, she decided to pursue pain management further.
Meet Dr. Ava Giugliano
Originally going to college in biochemistry engineering, Dr. Giugliano landed an internship at a new hospital in her hometown. As a liaison between providers, CEOs, and engineers, she realized it was more rewarding to work with patients and make a difference in their lives than to work behind the scenes talking about logistics and finances.
During her medical school education, she saw patients impacted by the opioid epidemic in rural, underserved areas who didn’t have access to interventional pain management. Dr. Giugliano also volunteered as a patient transporter in her hometown and worked at a family crisis center in DC, mostly treating young single mothers. Her experiences in these fields give her a unique perspective that allows her to treat all of her patients with the utmost compassion and empathy.
Throughout her career, her goal has been to educate patients about available treatments. Dr. Giugliano is an osteopathic doctor who works with her patients’ primary care doctors to create comprehensive treatment plans that don’t involve opioids or potentially dangerous medication. These plans are designed to ultimately get her patients back to their daily lives and doing what they love.
Dr. Giugliano primarily treats patients with classic neck and back pain, and those with neuropathic pain and provides interventional treatments for patients with chronic headaches and migraines. The treatments are done in conjunction with medication to ensure the highest level and effectiveness of care.
When she’s not practicing medicine, Dr. Ava Giugliano enjoys being outdoors, cheering on her favorite football team – the Steelers, cooking and traveling. Her fiancé is a veterinarian, and they spend weekends hiking or at Lake Norman with their Labrador, Cam J.
