Common Questions About Interventional Pain Relief

What is interventional pain treatment?

Interventional pain treatment is often referred to as non-surgical pain management.

The processes of pain relief found in interventional pain treatment are minimally invasive and are accomplished during outpatient procedures.

How many different types of interventional pain treatments exist?

There are dozens of options for interventional pain treatment. Some involve injection, electrical stimulation, or even plasma therapy.

How can interventional pain treatment benefit me more than a surgical procedure?

Surgeries involve more of a recovery period before you’re able to get started enjoying your life again. With surgery, you may need physical therapy, or other treatments afterward. When doing interventional treatment, there is less involved. You go to the center, receive treatment, and go home in less pain. Interventional methods are much less intrusive in your daily life, and the overall outcome is often better than surgical pain management.

What conditions can be treated with interventional methods?

All kinds of conditions are treatable with interventional methods. Some common ones include:

  • Arthritis
  • Migraines
  • Back Pain, whether chronic or from an injury
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle spasms
  • Post-surgery pain
  • Labor pains
  • Wounds that are healing slowly

What are the most common types of interventional pain treatment?

There are many types, but the most frequently used pain relief methods are practiced and widely acknowledged in the medical field. Here are a few of them:

  1. Botox. Botox is used as a pain management resource and commonly comes as an injection for migraine relief. Migraines are hard to treat at times because the origin isn’t completely understood. What is known, though, is that an injection of Botox into the area of the migraines has been proven to reduce pain. There are common side-effects, so it’s a commonly used choice.
  2. Nerve block injections. Nerve blocks are used for a lot of things, including C-Sections in childbirth, which is more widely known. But, they are also used to block pain receptors caused by different medical factors. Nerve blocks can be used to provide short or long-term relief.
  3. Radiofrequency. Radiofrequency works by diverting the signals that cause pain while they work their way towards your brain. By re-routing the pain signals, you’re unable to feel the pain. It’s a safe treatment, and like others, can help with both chronic and acute conditions.
  4. Spinal cord stimulation. There is a device called a spinal cord stimulator, and it can be placed parallel to the spinal cord. Once this happens, a certain voltage of energy bursts out in order to defend against pain signals, thus stopping the pain in its tracks.
  5. Acupuncture. Native to Chinese traditionalist medical practice, acupuncture has been used for many years to treat chronic pain. To learn more about the practice of acupuncture, click here.
